14.25%, a 3-year increase in New York hotel sales tax

Yes, it's true - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has just announced a temporary increase in the city's hotel tax, by almost 1%. That brings the aggregate hotel tax to 14.25 percent, and an estimated $20 million extra tax revenue in 2009 and approximately $61 million in 2010. As for "temporary", the increase is in place until the end of 2011, or for nearly the next 3 years! To read more details, click here.
